Have you ever watched the late Bob Ross paint his “happy little trees” on TV and wonder if painting a picture is really as easy as he made it seem? I have always been in awe of artists because I can barely draw a decent stick figure. So when my good friend and Bob Ross certified painting instructor, Kim McLaughlin, invited me to come to one of her classes, I accepted. Kim assured me that the classes she teaches are great for beginners, because everyone paints the same picture, with step by step instructions and all materials including paint and canvas are included. I advised Kim that I had no artistic talent and she would be woefully disappointed in me!
Well, guess what? I loved the class and my first painting didn’t suck! (In fact it was pretty darn good for my first painting ever.) Since then I’ve taken five additional classes with her, and have improved each time. The seascape painting with the “happy little palm trees” at the top of this post - I painted it in one of Kim’s classes this past December. So far, it’s my favorite.
I know my success at painting is due in large part to Kim’s patient instruction. She has a way of explaining the painting techniques in a way that make it very easy for everyone to understand. Kim also makes the class a fun experience for everyone. Besides me, there are quite a few “regulars” in her classes, like Curtis Wood, shown here with this past Saturday’s painting. (It’s amazing to me that we paint these awesome pictures in only 3 ½ hours!)
I am very excited that Kim’s giving away a gift certificate for a lucky fan to take one of her painting classes at Hobby Lobby in Florence, KY for FREE, a $49 value! We’re extending this giveaway to three days, so you have through Friday, May 11th to enter to win. Here’s how to do it. Go to Kim’s blog and follow it. Then come back here and comment on this post to enter (one entry per person). It’s that easy! Good luck with the giveaway CCQ fans! We’ll draw a winner on Saturday morning. (I will verify that the winner drawn is following the Happy Little Trees blog, so don’t skip this step!) And don’t forget to follow me on Facebook for notifications on future Win It Wednesday giveaways!
